Skulduggery Pleasant - Derek Landy

The book starts off quite nicely with the murder of (strangely) a magician.

I generally like fantasy stories and this one is particularly gripping. Skeletons usually seem to be the baddies but you will be surprised by what happens in this...... a skeleton is the good guy? If you like magic this is the ultimate fantasy novel for you. Recommended for children aged 9 to 14.

I can't really find anything wrong with this book and so for its rating : 9.5/10

Garth Nix - Sabriel

"Ok this is one of my favourite books. It is about a girl named Sabriel (as the title clearly suggests), who lives at a boarding school named "Wyverly Collage". Her father, who is know as the "Aborsen", is a necromancer of sorts that slays creatures that have died but have either been compelled to come back into life to serve a necromancer, or they desperately want to cling to life instead of passing the nine gates of death and dying the true death. It is mainly about how Sabriel learns about the "Old Kingdom" and takes her fathers place as the "Abhorsen" as he has been trapped somewhere in death by an evildead spirit named "Kerigor". This is a compelling book packed with action and interseting events. It is brilliant for those with an imagination and those who love a bit of tragedy. I would seriousely recomend this book and would suggest that no-one under the age of 10 should read this book as it may be a bit scarry for young children."

Christopher Paolini - Eragon

Eragon is an action packed book of dragons and magic. It is very long but intriguing, there are always reviews by newspapers on the back of books saying ‘amazing’ or ‘magical’ etc. But this is one of the only books that are suitable for these phrases. A boy names Eragon, an old man called Brom and Eragon’s friend sapphire set out an impossible adventure over the Hadorac desert to avenge his Uncles murder by the Razaac and to discover the true powers of a dragon and the rider. Brom educates him in the skills of sparing and magic. Many cities store dangers and suspicions, growing into midnight flees and fights for survival. Eragons only wish is vengeance, but getting into trouble with a shade and deals with dwarves doesn’t let you walk home. His choices will change their world forever. Will he defeat evil? Now buy the book and see for yourself.

Eragon was written by Christopher Paolini in 2003.

CHERUB Series

It is a great child spy series but is nothing like Alex Rider. It is realistic, and if you have read Alex Rider books you will notice it is always stopping some massive disaster that is not actually believable. In CHERUB it is actually believable like for example stopping a drug dealer in America. There are a few swear words, but nothing really bad. It is always funny, and you really get to like or dislike the characters. There are relationships involved, and it really looks into the life of a teenager. CHERUB agents are aged 10 to 17.

At the end of each book there is a summary of what happens to all the characters.
